In 2017 Greg and Aaron Stanfield met in the Super Stock final at Route 66 Raceway and perhaps expectedly, the win went to Aaron, who has since gone on to win three championships in the FlexJet Factory Stock Showdown.

The Stanfield’s met again this weekend at Route 66 Raceway in the final of the Holley EFI Factory X class and this time, five-time Super Stock world champ Greg extracted some long overdue revenge, not only with a victory, but a starting line holeshot to finish the job. Driving his Rod Shop Camaro, Greg hit the Tree with an almost perfect .006 light and then drove to a 7.140 to seal the victory against Aaron’s quicker 7.122.

“Anytime you can beat Aaron you’ve had a great day,” Greg said. “Aaron brings out the best out of me. Everyone has put a lot of effort into this. I want to thank NHRA and Holley for backing the class, everyone at Stanfield Racing Engines that helps us with this project, The Rod Shop, Pat Quinn, Rick Kirk, Gil Kirk, and especially the Janac brothers and CTech Cabinets.

“I’m very excited. The class is new and I hope it grows fan support. We’re glad to be here in front of the Joliet and Chicago fans. It’s great here.”

When asked about his final round reaction time, Stanfield simply said, “Got lucky.”

With a win at the inaugural event in Las Vegas last month, Stanfield came into Chicago as the championship leader and he qualified No. 1 with a 7.101, a hundredth quicker than Aaron’s 7.119.

On race day, Greg powered past Rick Hord with a 7.228 and then topped Lenny Lottig with a 7.149 to reach the final round.

Aaron, who was also the runner-up in Pro Stock to Dallas Glenn, joined his father in the final thanks to wins over Stephen Bell and Jesse Alexandra.

Following the Chicago event, Greg holds a 25 point lead over Aaron in the standings with the next event scheduled for the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, June 27-30.
